Hey, Falcons!

In case you didn’t catch Ms. I’s acknowledgement at Community Meeting today, us Juniors and Seniors lucked out on a Chemistry Quiz this week! Thanks to Brian Ortega of Section 5, Ms. I has sympathized with some valid and strong arguments made in a wonderful letter sent to her. Brian has agreed to send in his letter for editing; check it out in all it’s glory.

Sections 5 - 8, behold your saving document:

Dear Ms. I,

I am writing this letter due to the concern of the upcoming vocabulary test this week. In many ways, it would be highly appreciated if we had our test when we come from Thanksgiving break. It is shown in a recent article posted in New York City that testing is one of the top things that stress students out, which leads to having anxiety.

I understand that we have been assigned 25 vocab words to memorize, but at the same time, we have other work to focus on besides your class. Personally, as a student and on behalf of all Silver Oak students, it would be kindly and highly respected if you would give us an extra week to study these vocabulary words. If you would just put yourself in our point of view… I don't want to be having Thanksgiving dinner and just thinking of how bad my score was on the test. It would be nice to just enjoy Thanksgiving at home, then come back to school prepared to take the test.

Most of us have jobs after school, which also limits us from having time to review many things. We have bills to pay and that's why we hustle. If you were to give us this week, I could promise you that most of your students would exceed you expectations on the test, and have a better understanding of how awesome you are. Many people may hate on you, but you should know that you’re a real G. By doing this, you could give students a different point of view of how you are and “They Shall Have Respect For You” Much love and respect LOS ORTEGA’S.

One resolution I could propose is to have an essay about a scientist and what he/she developed or discovered in their years of studying. This would be something that everyone will be into, and you wouldn't have to create a test. You would just have to approve of the scientist we want to write about. If we were to do this, we would have access to our computers, and if someone is found not working on their assignment/test, they would just get a flat 0, because it's a privilege to use a computer at our wonderful Montessori High School. I’ve talked to most of my peers, and they reached out to me saying that they would be more comfortable if we had an essay, just because all of these vocab words are very new to us, and we don't really have a deep understanding of them. Please take this into consideration, we as “Silver Oak Students” will thank you for this.

Sincerely,

Brian O.

We appreciate you, Brian.
